Vice President Mike Pence seems to be this administration’s secret weapon when it comes to quietly dropping the hammer—
—because according to a new report, that’s exactly what he did to the House Freedom Caucus back in March, and it sounds like it was epic.
Pence reportedly brought a few HFC members to tears, telling them, “I was the Freedom Caucus before the Freedom Caucus existed.”
Check it out (via BizPacReview):
Not long after they had gathered, however, the door was flung open and in marched Pence. He was accompanied by Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, and neither man was smiling.
Pence — himself a former member of the Tea Party Caucus — reportedly pleaded with members to hop on board with the bill, and “let loose an uncharacteristic flash of anger”:
“I was the Freedom Caucus before the Freedom Caucus existed,” Pence told them, his voice rising, according to multiple people who were in the room. “Don’t try to tell me this bill isn’t conservative enough.”
After Pence left the room, a handful of grown men apparently broke into tears.
LOL WHAT?! You guys, come on. How can you honestly expect to drive a hard line with the democrats if you can’t handle a tongue-lashing from your own VP without crying afterward?
Pull it together, HFC.
While it was obviously too late for this version of the bill at that point, we know the end of this story—it did eventually pass the House.
But the moral of the story is this:
Mike Pence is. the. man.
